Customer will tell you about their PROBLEMS (if you ask them right questions), but they won’t be able to (always) give you the (innovative) SOLUTIONS. Customers problems can be looked as needs (gaps to be filled) and ‘Need is mother of invention’. Customers may know what they want but they dont know what they need.

——-

Customers are too busy to help you in developing a solution for their problem or even talk about it. They have leared to live with it. Attention is currency these days and there are ample attractive choises to pay attention to (most of them are less painful and inviting). Until and unless you are not hitting the right cord, people wont pay attention. People will pay attention only to get pleasure or reduce pain.

Innovation is ‘Thinking out of the box’. Thinking out of the box is looking at the same thing from ‘drastically’ different angle.  Abstration of situation/problem will help you to think out of the box.
